A fun children's book!

Greg Luzniak recently raised funds to self-publish his first children’s picture book, Three Goats Gruff, using kickstarter.com.

I’m proud to say that I was a backer for this project. I was rewarded with a limited edition copy from the first printing (copy # 373 out of 1,000).

Three Goats Gruff is a story that I remember from my own childhood (during the mid-80s). I've always enjoyed this book.

I think Greg Luzniak is an amazing artist. I love his art in this book. I think he has done a great job at brining this classic book back to life for today's generation of kids!

Greg Luzniak studied at the Joe Kubert School of Cartooning and the Art Institute of Houston. He has illustrated comics for Marvel, DC, and Malibu Comics. He has also worked in creating art for video games.
I think his artwork is inspiring.

Creatures -- the card game... is Fun!

Creatures the card game could be used as a therapeutic tool for children.

I teach social skills and leisure education to children (boy and girls) between the ages of 7 to 12.

Here are some of the benefits that “Creatures – the Card Game” could do:

  • a.) Help the child to learn new age-appropriate leisure skill (ability to play Creatures Card Game) that she (or he) can use to build social connections (i.e. make friends).

  • b.) Help the child to practice needed social skills such as: taking turns, fair play, being patient for turn, using good sportsmanship, being friendly with others.

  • c.) Allow the child to increase intellectual functioning. This game requires the child to think ahead, concentrate, and use math skills.

I’m sure that Recreational Therapists working in rehabilitation settings could teach adaptive techniques or help with fine motor skills. However, my background is in behavioral health.

Monsters by Danny Pettry.

Toy Monsters designed by Derric C. (DerBears Toy Factory)

Dear friend --

I made books during my leisure time (when I'm not working as a Rec. Therapist).

I'm currently working on 3 Monster books (That are cute and fun). These books include pictures of the toys from Derric's DerBears Toy Factory!

Would you’d pledge $12 support for the Monster books for kids!

They're going to be really-awesome and super-cute! Designed to encourage children to read.

Every dollar counts.

There are several neat rewards: like copies of the Monster books and one of the limited-edition monsters from the book that you can select.

Of course no pressure if you’re not interested.
You wouldn’t be billed until Jan. 15, 2012!

Here is the link if you’d like to pledge $12 to help:

The Mind.

Dear friend,

I had the opportunity to read The Mind’s Use-Fullness Depends on the Thoughts of The User by Allan Rufus.

This is a very powerful little book on self-discovery, self-healing, motivation, and realization.

Rufus challenges the reader to change her (or his) thoughts in order to change life.
Rufus quotes the Ascended Master Kuthumi:

“If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got”.

Rufus argues that only through our awareness can we change something.

This book is about a powerful philosophy. It is on Inner-Alchemy and Self-Transformation.

The book gives simply and easy-to-understand metaphors to help the reader get in touch with the meaning of her (or his) own life, to set goals, and to live a life worth living.

I’d imagine a Life Coach would recommend a person to read this book.

You’d probably enjoy this book if you like anything by: Rhonda Bryne, Napoleon Hill, Bob Proctor, Joe Vitale, Robert Collier, Marci Shimoff, Jack Canfield, Deepak Chopra, and others like them.

Boyscout Saves Family

Here is a good story on character:

http://video.foxnews.com/v/983873720001/boy-scout-saves-family

Orangeburg County is Leader in Character Education

I read an interesting article today about Orangeburg County (South Carolina) regarding "Character Education."

They had a group, including, their Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Revitalization Association, and their County Development Commission and The Times and Democrat that started a "Community of Character."

Wow, that is a lot of groups to focus on character!

This started back in 2000. They had their first conference in 2005.

The article claims that character education is a fast-growing movement in schools.

I'm very pleased to hear about this wonderful plan to help teach virtues and character values that children need so much today.

Read the article here:

http://thetandd.com/news/opinion/article_cfcc4f90-8c97-11e0-817e-001cc4c03286.html

And if you haven't done so already, get your copy of my children's book, "Building Character with Sam, Izzy, & Many Other Dogs: 15 Tips to Help Teach Children Character." It uses pictures of cute dogs (and some cats) to teach character values including: acceptance of others, making a compromise, having empathy for others, being a good listner, being a good team-player, and so many more.

Get it here:

Stanford High Grades compare "Character" to game of Chutes and Ladders.

Stanford High School grads compared "character" to game of Chutes and Ladders.

Read about it here:

Here is the game today. You might want to get it for your child.

The book series seems real interesting:

Help Animals!

My good friend Lisa sent this email to me:

To All,

I am sending this e-mail to all my contacts because I have a chance to
help so many animals in need of being rescued and transported by
flying them to more adoptable places where they have a chance of
finding homes from people who will give them unconditional love. I was
asked by Pilots N Paws in SC to do this for them and i said yes.

I am a Pet Consultant for ShurePets and sell pet products and a direct
sales company like Avon and tupperware. Now we have a fundraising
program to help non-profit organizations. They have to have their tax
exempt status 501C(3). This process is simple. I set up a fundraising
web page for Pilots N Paws. Everything is done online. each
organization that signs up will receive 25% of the cost of each
product sold. Our products are 100% natural, organic and made in the
USA.

I ask that everyone send this to at least 3 people to Pay it Forward
and i ask everyone who have a facebook page to post this message and
link on their Facebook page. Twitter people please do the same. I
really like this to be a huge success and my goal is to raise at least
$2000.00-$3000.00 if a huge number of people place small orders we
could do this. I would rather people give in small amounts because of
our economy and I think it can happen.

Toby makes Marley look like Mother Theresa

As you probably already know, I’m a big-time animal lover.

My children’s book, Building Character with Sam and Izzy featured many cute dogs (and a few cats, too).

Today, I want to tell you about a new book about a dog named Toby!

Toby makes Marley look like Mother Theresa.

This furry friend was a hellion on 4 paws. The stories are incredible of what he did, and what he destroyed.

But Toby has a secret.

He has a gift.

But you must read the book to discover the secret!

All I can say without giving away too much is that Toby has a great message to share, and if you love to read, especially about heartwarming stories, then you better order a copy of this book right away.

Not only is this book great… Hollywood sat up, took notice, and is making a movie of Toby’s life!

I can’t wait for this movie!

You can watch the book trialer here:

This is the ultimate book for readers, dog lovers and children.

It is heartwarming.
It will change your perception of ‘troublesome’ dogs.
It will show you hope where things seemed lost.

Pick up a copy (or two) today

Here are a few more books that feature dogs that you might want to consider:

This Book Might Save Your Child's Life.

Do You Know How to Protect your Children from Cyber Crimes?

Has your child ever been the victim of cyberbullying?

If not, the odds are pretty high that one day he or she will be.

The sad fact is 50% of teens admit to being bullied online or by text message.

Did you know that 71% of teens receive messages from STRANGERS online?

(Often from adults posing as children.)

Important Question: Do you want to know how to PROTECT your kids from the potential hazards of the internet and cell phones?

Of course you do.

Today’s youth are falling victim to the perils of social media and cell phone messaging. And most parents are WITHOUT the tools to help their kids. Are you one of them?

Introducing The Parent’s Guide to Texting, Facebook, and Social Media: Understanding the Benefits and Dangers of Parenting in a Digital World by Shawn Marie Edgington.

Buy This Book on May 17th From The Link Below and You'll Do a Good Deed:

All royalties from the May 17, 2011s sale of this book will be donated to the:

Megan Meier Foundation to protect children from cyberbullying!

In 2006, Tina Meier’s thirteen year old daughter Megan took her own life as a result of a neighbor who set up a fake profile online pretending to be a young boy. Megan was harassed and bullied until she could see no way out of the pain.

As sad as it is, once every half hour a child commits suicide as a result of being bullied. And most parents never have any idea the severity of what’s happening.
The Parent’s Guide is the only book that gives you:

• The Fundamentals of mobile messaging, Facebook, and other media platforms

• Ten Facebook rules to live by and why social network monitoring is critical

• Information and Tools to prepare teens for the web

• Ten signs of cyber-bullying with measures to defend against cyber bullies

• Information parents need about privacy and security settings

• Ways to use “parental controls” to provide peace of mind and empower children to defend against online harassment

The Parent's Guide provides awareness, solutions and preventative resources to keep children safe and secure online.

With defensive parenting and constant communication, parents can TEACH children about the potential dangers of social networking and EMPOWER them to protect themselves from online predators. You can GUARD your child’s personal information, PRESERVE their online reputation, and learn how to determine friends from "frenemies."

Knowledge is power! Parents aware of what's happening can get involved and facilitate change.

The author, Shawn Marie Edgington, is America’s leading “Textpert” and cyber-bullying prevention expert. She’s the author of Read Between the Lines: A Humorous Guide to Texting with Simplicity and Style, the creator of the One-Click Safety Series. Shawn is on a mission to help protect our kids against the dangers that exist on the wild, wild web, and wants every parent to know that no child is immune.

Protect your children from online predators! Click the link below to learn more.

PS. Cyberbullying is a REAL threat to teens. Educate yourself about this important issue by reading The Parent’s Guide to Texting, Facebook, and Social Media today!

25 Manners Every Kid Should Know!

My good friend and cousin Tracy (a Physical Therapist) and mother of two wonderful boys had posted a link on her facebook called “25 manners every child should know by age 9.”

I enjoyed the list.

I provide services for children (ages 7 to 12) at a residential treatment facility. The age “9” is about the average age.

Many of the children who I provide services for have a need for social skills training. I’m going to share the list of 25 manners with the children who I provide services for.

I do my best to role model all of these manners (social skills) when interacting with the children.

The Benefits for Using Manners:
Several leading experts like Daniel Goleman argue that emotional and social intelligence will be a far greater predictor of future success compared to IQ.

Anyone who has children or works with children should consider taking a look at this web-site link to read all 25 of the manners.

Here is the link:

Dogs are resilient

Wow -- dogs are resilient!

Patrick "The pit bull" was treated bad and left for dead in a garbage chute.

The dog was found near death.

The Fox News article said "his bones protruded from his fur and he had no body temperature."

The Associated Humane Societies called it one of the worest cases of cruelty they've ever seen.

Patrick was resilient. He made it through the night and was still alive on St. Patrick's Day, so he got his name, "Patrick."

I've decided to add "Resilient" in the character traits in book 2 for children. Based on my experiences, many children are already resilient. But, I think this trait should be covered in the next book to help children to "bounce back." http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/03/29/new-jersey-woman-arrested-charged-crime-case-brutalized-pit-bull/?test=latestnews
